So.
I’m only doing this because it has been ten years since I read these books, and I am supposed to be an adult now.
So.
HMMMMMM.
I’m sure all of you have heard by now that Stephenie Meyer has re-written Twilight with switched gender perspectives. As in Bella = Beau and Edward = Edythe.
Soooo I have made my position on the Twilight saga quite clear. In case you don’t know, I’m from Port Angeles, WA. Also known as the town that Edward and Bella go on their date in, etc. etc. When I was in high school, people from all over the country came to visit my town and see the movie premiers in a theater so crappy that it has now been officially closed. It was just ridiculous and it pissed 16-year old me off. Seriously, go Google Port Angeles and press “images” and Twilight comes up. And no, none of the movie was filmed there. Which added to my irritation. Plus, teenage me hated anything everyone else loved.

But before all that… I read the books. And if I’m being honest, I liked them. THIS IS A BIG DEAL FOR ME TO SAY, GUYS. THIS IS MY TWILIGHT COMING OUT. Did I like Bella? No. She was pretty pathetic. But they were a fun read and you know what? No matter what you think of them, they are a freakin movement. Stephenie Meyer made the love triangle popular. She made vampires popular. Hell, she made YA popular. She deserves partial credit for this incredible genre we all love. And you know what? Kudos, Stephanie. Kudos. You rocked it. I can only dream of achieving even a fraction of what you have.
BUT NOW. What is this?! Too far. Not on board. I’m jumping ship. Again. I was never really on the ship. But anyway. It drives me crazy when authors don’t know when to let go. I understand that she’s addressing the flack she’s gotten on the fact that her protagonist is basically a doormat. But the Twilight saga is over. OVER, PEOPLE. LET IT GO.

It is pretty much true, about Stephanie Meyer rejuvenating the YA genre… to the point where The Vampire Diaries is revisited and made into a tv show. ;)

As much as I hate to admit it, I didn’t hate Twilight. I didn’t care for the last two books, but I totally devoured the first two. And they go down in history as one of two series I’ve ever finished (Harry Potter being the other). So, that’s gotta mean something, right? But, I’m not on board with the gender-swapped Twilight. It just seems like a novelty, which I’m sure is fun for the Twihards, but it just seems like overkill.

I never finished Twilight. hehe. I only just recently started. Omg, I was SUCH A PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A TEEN and I didn’t even know about YA or books or anything. I only got into reading about 4 years ago, so by then Twilight was despised and I only read the first book. I definitely don’t think it’s worth the hate! But…um….isn’t this “new Twilight” just like fanfiction?! But the author?!!? It confuses me, truly. I feel like it’s redundant and it’d be cooler if she wrote more about vampires (if she really likes vampires) and in different settings. Maye the same world?! Like, for goodness sakes, write a series about Bella’s kid (I never got to that book, so I’m only assuming that’s possible haha) But yeah. I have to admit I don’t see the point in this.

Haha! I distinctly remember the “Teen” section of my library being tiny. I don’t think YA was a thing yet… or else I’m in your boat and just didn’t know it existed!!

Why, J! Bella is the perfect epitome of….what a protagonist should NOT be! And yes, I know, everyone has that period in their life where they liked Twilight….and then everyone regrets it :P. I have no clue how Stephenie even THOUGHT of this! It’s outrageous. Though I’m curious, I will NOT want to read this.

People really came from all over? That is a truly momentous devotion to Twilight. I think you’re right that Stephanie Meyer does deserve credit for revitalizing the YA genre, and for getting some people who never want to read to start reading. But I also agree that this is a step too far…to me it seems like an easy cash-grab. I’d rather see her try her hand at a new universe/genre/etc. LET IT GO!

Yes, yes they did. My high school even had a page about it in my yearbook haha. And my thoughts exactly!! It kind of makes it look like her creativity is waning and she can’t think of anything new to write haha

My gut reaction to the news was “WHAT?” But then after thinking about it all day the more and more I wanted to read this book. In fact, I know I will. I actually enjoyed the Twilight books. I read them well before I got involved in the online book community and actually didn’t have any problems with the series. I found it unfortunate at how much hate has evolved toward it. But that always happens with things that are super popular (example: the Titanic movie, people were obsessed, now people hate it). I am extremely intrigued to see how this book plays out with gender reversals. I hope that it’s good.

I hope it is too! In my head, it’s her capitalizing even more on the same story. But I am a cynic and I hope that she really is exploring how the story would have played out with the genders reversed. I’m excited for people’s reviews to come out, I’m really curious!

I’m a twihard. #sorrynotsorry :D I’m still curious about this re-imagining or whatever the heck Stephenie is trying to hock. But oh! How cool! I’ve always wanted to go — like, back in the day — to Port Angeles! I can imagine how irritating that might’ve been for the locals like you, though.

Well, you know, Port Angeles is pretty great. I would know ;) Haha it just got a bit out of hand! I mean, I get it, I want to go to King’s Cross Station, but that’s London so… there are always tourists there.. not so much in PA!

I didn’t like Twilight to begin with and could only make it through the first book. At first, I thought this sounded interesting, but the more I think about, I don’t think I would be able to stand it. I have a clear mental image of how Beau and Edythe would act and it makes my teeth grit.

That’s the thing I don’t really understand.. Like its the exact same story. So I don’t really get why people are so excited. She just changed sentences and descriptions here and there and called it good. That’s when you know you’ve done too much with the same story!

It’s fun to hear your experiences having lived in PA. I liked the series and will probably read it for kicks. I don’t expect it to be amazing but hopefully it will be fun. And I can honestly say I’ve never visited Forks even though I could drive there in a few hours!

Haha i think I could write a whole lot about my personal experience with it! In all honesty there’s no reason to go to Forks, it’s a teeny tiny town. La Push is gorgeous though! And PA, of course. ;)

I am actually really excited : / I love Twilight, I always have. They are the books that really got me started on reading, they were the first books I used as an escape. I’m excited about this, as I have already said, but I’m also kind of terrified. I’m scared it’s going to ruin what I think about the series : (

NO SHAME girl. You read that book. Seriously I think the whole home-town thing put a big chip on my shoulder. I’m sure it’ll be good, I honestly think Stephenie is quite the impressive writer!

I feel the same way about movies that take place in LA, especially San Andreas this past year. I'm from Southern California, so I hate seeing it portrayed.
